Local and national nonprofit organizations need your support. In fact, you may already be donating your time and money to such entities. That’s great. But as a business person who knows the power of promotional products, you can give your charitable work an extra kick by donating imprinted products or other promotional merchandise, combining the good citizenship of giving and the good word-of-mouth you’ll generate for your company.
Nonprofits are big users of promotional products, but their budgets are tight and their goals are often different than yours when it comes to imprinted items. In most cases, nonprofits use promotional products as thank-yous, giveaways at special events, and gifts for speakers and high-profile supporters.
As a seasoned and savvy marketer, you’re in a unique position to help nonprofits get the word out. Rather than simply being mentioned in a program or listed on their web site, ask your local nonprofit if they would be interested in imprinted items that carry their message and showcase your support. It can be something as simple as, “(your name) is proud to support the local Red Cross. Won’t you?” or “Join (your name) in supporting the American Heart Association!”
Most organizations will welcome such an idea, since it’s an opportunity to give some real staying power to their message (because promotional products get saved and displayed) and defray their costs (because you’re footing the bill).
So the next time you’re asked to get involved with a nonprofit, think outside the box – you may be surprised at how receptive they are to using promotional products in a way that will benefit both of you.
