Staying on Track: “Patriotism is not short, frenzied outbursts of emotion, but the tranquil and steady dedication of a lifetime.” – Adlai E. Stevenson, American Politician, (1900-1965)

Celebrating Patriotic Holidays

Welcome to the first issue of our e-newsletter. You’ll receive a brief bulletin every month featuring promotional marketing strategies and ideas we hope you find useful.

Now that July 4th is behind us, let’s not allow our thoughts of patriotism to wane or become any less meaningful. Patriotism is a year-round display of our inward emotions about this country. Regardless of age, race or income group, Americans place significant value on patriotism. In fact, a Roper/NOP poll found that 81% believe patriotic sentiment is “in.” Occasions such as Memorial Day, Flag Day (June 14th), Fourth of July and Labor Day present ideal opportunities to show your support for the widely held value.

Here are a few ways to make the most of the events.

Reward customers who wear patriotic colors when they visit your business during one of these national holidays. Perhaps they receive a discount on their purchase and/or an incentive such as being entered into a trip for two to Washington, D.C. Make sure everyone gets in the spirit by handing out an inexpensive “remembrance” such as vinyl flag bookmark or USA-themed pen imprinted with your logo.

Participate in local parades. Inexpensive giveaways such as imprinted balloons tied to a flag magnet with your company name/contact information can be handed to children along the parade route. The magnet itself can include tear-off coupons for services/products to encourage patronage at your business.

Distribute useful products to crowds celebrating outdoors. Imprinted fans decorated as flags or inexpensive red, white and blue visors will not only make users more comfortable in the summer sun, they’ll advertise your company to the crowd. Fun items such as USA-themed inflatable balls and beverage sleeves are not only fun but quite handy at beach gatherings – putting your logo in the midst of celebration.

Recognize veterans and military personnel/family members among your customer base and staff. Give out flag pins, bumper stickers or silicone wristbands in Americana designs that carry a message of gratitude and support.

Host stars-and-stripes events. Restaurants can dress servers in flag-inspired caps and aprons. Shops outfit clerks in red or blue t-shirts. Or simply add a patriotic lanyard to staff nametags for a welcome Uncle-Sam style. The goal is to create an atmosphere that celebrates a national event.

Finally, look for opportunities to prove that your company not only touts its patriotism but operates responsibly by giving back to the community whether through donations or volunteerism. Together we can explore win-win promotions that not only appeal to the patriots in your customer base but do so without appearing opportunistic.

I hope you enjoyed our first newsletter. If you’d like to talk about an upcoming promotional event or activity, please call me or send me an e-mail. And feel free to pass along your feedback about our newsletter. Your input is appreciated.
