The good news: A study of health promotion research found that programs promoting wellness among employees show an average employer savings-to-cost ratio of $5.93 to $1. Here are some ideas to celebrate this May and beyond. Kick off a fitness program that encourages employees to take steps toward healthier lifestyles. An imprinted pedometer will help staff measure steps around the office or during a lunch-time stroll. Employees with the most number of steps logged each month win awards and/or prizes. Nip the flu in the bud this fall/winter by passing around care kits. Include antibacterial wipes, hand sanitizers, small tissue packets and teabags in a logoed mug. Such gifts – which can all be imprinted with tidings of good health – reduce the germs that drive absenteeism, a cost that can be two-to-three times as much as medical care itself. Strike the stress that plagues employees by teaching good stress-management techniques. Slide guides and bookmarks can list top tips for stress relief. Squeeze toys stay top-of-desk and top-of-mind for short employee “sanity” breaks. Exercise works; traveling salespeople, for example, could benefit from inflatable weights to keep them fit and focused while on the road. Support smoking cessation. There are numerous tokens to aid your workers who undertake this daunting task, such as imprinted chewing gum and toothpick-filled booklets for smokers who need a distraction. Small, imprintable bottles of essential rosemary – known for its relaxing effects – can be rubbed on the temple or inhaled to stave off a craving. These items don’t replace medical treatment, but they show employees who choose to quit smoking that they’ve got supporters who care. These are just a few ideas that can promote wellness among your workforce. Give us a call and we can talk about your company’s specific health hurdles. |
